At the August monthly meeting of the Texas Transportation Commission, commissioners and North Texas transportation leaders sat down to a public discussion on several topics, including the proposed loop around the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The loop, which as proposed would be part of the Trans-Texas Corridor, has acquired the nickname “the Doughnut.” The commission, during a discussion of the project, passed out doughnuts to all in attendance.
The loop idea resulted from the work of local leaders, who, after seeing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, asked that the TTC be built nearer to Metroplex roads, instead of the original study area that goes east. The loop would be built in segments beginning in 2011, with completion estimated in 2030.
In addition to the loop discussion, members of the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Regional Transportation Council joined commissioners to talk about a regional protocol for developing, building and operating current and future toll projects in the Dallas-Forth Worth area.
