Energy and transportation in the 21st century were the focus of the first-ever Texas-Alberta Summit held in Austin earlier this month. Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach, Governor Rick Perry, Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade and Texas Transportation Commissioner Fred Underwood headlined the event.
The leaders gathered to discuss opportunities to improve and modernize energy infrastructure and build a partnership to better compete in an increasingly global economy. The Texas-Alberta partnership strengthens the case for funding North America’s primary energy and agricultural corridor, including new infrastructure in Texas.
“Texas and Alberta are the pillars of North America’s energy economy and it is critical for our jurisdictions to work together on energy development,” Stelmach said. “It is equally important that our jurisdictions look for opportunities to collaborate and develop new technologies such as carbon capture and storage as we both transition to meet the demand for cleaner energy.”
The summit was sponsored by the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor Coalition a network of nine states that promotes energy and agriculture trade. The corridor stretches from the Gulf ports of Texas to the Canadian border and generates nearly 20 per cent of total U.S. NAFTA trade.
